2025 Wildlife Fertility Control Summer School Program

June 23 – July 11, 2025

Human–Wildlife Coexistence: Navigating the New Frontier of Fertility Control

UAB–BIWFC | Barcelona, Spain

In July 2025, UAB and BIWFC hosted the first Summer School on Human–Wildlife Coexistence: Navigating the New Frontier of Fertility Control in Barcelona. Over three intensive weeks, students and experts from around the world came together to explore innovative approaches, share perspectives, and build new collaborations in the field of fertility control and wildlife management.

Highlights

  • Delivered a three-week intensive program (with potential to expand with an additional week on hormones & behavior), drawing on 35 years of expertise.
  • Welcomed our first cohort of 14 students from Argentina, China, Germany, USA, Spain, South Korea, and Singapore, with backgrounds ranging from veterinary medicine, biology, and microbiology to law, language, and business.
  • Students valued CPD certification, group discussions, and interactive sessions—often staying after class to continue conversations.
  • Participants expressed enthusiasm to share the details of future schools with peers and professional networks.
  • New collaborations explored with UAB, the University of York, Chester Zoo, and student-led projects in Germany and South America.

Looking Ahead

We look forward to building on this success and welcoming the next cohort of students in 2026. We also welcome interest from other universities and institutions that would like to explore collaboration opportunities for future editions of the Summer School.
