BIWFC at the 14th International Wild Boar Conference

The 14th International Wild Boar Conference brought together 129 participants from 34 countries across five continents for three days of workshops, presentations, and international collaboration focused on wild boar research and management.
BIWFC was represented by Giovanna Massei, who served as a member of the conference Scientific Committee and presented “Baits, Boar and Behaviour: A Review.” The program included two workshops and 50 oral presentations covering a wide range of topics related to wild boar research and management.
Building International Connections
The conference provided opportunities to connect with researchers and wildlife professionals from around the world, including colleagues from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Europe, the United States, and Australia.
Discussions explored several areas relevant to wildlife fertility control, including oral contraceptives, bait uptake, population modelling, animal tracking technologies, non-lethal wildlife management, and potential research collaborations involving wild boar populations.
A recurring theme throughout the conference was the lack of, and need for, social scientists in wildlife management research.
Giovanna also attended a workshop on trapping, tagging and tracking wild boar, which included presentations from industry and a Mentimeter-based discussion. The conference generated an idea for a future workshop on science communication, including potentially at the European Vertebrate Management Conference (EVMC).
Looking Ahead
The next International Wild Boar Conference will take place in Siena, Italy, in September 2028.
